Skyfold Astra
Privacy Policy.
Effective and last updated October 13, 2026.
Skyfold Astra is a sky-exploration app from nitpick labs. This policy covers the iOS and Android app, including its optional location features, and these Astra information pages.
Your sky stays on your device
Astra does not require an account and does not include advertising, analytics tracking, or a newsletter signup. Sky calculations, celestial searches, and viewing already saved cities run on your device. The app does not send your saved places, sky searches, or viewing history to nitpick labs.
Saved places and preferences
The app stores saved observer places, including their names, coordinates, and timezones, your last selected saved place, and supported preferences in local app storage. Current Location coordinates are temporary and are not saved as an observer place.
Your device's backup and restore features may retain copies of local app data where enabled. Android app backups are disabled in the current version. You control device backups through your operating system and backup provider.
City search
On iOS, city queries are sent to Apple Maps for autocomplete. Choosing a result sends its place name to Apple's geocoding service to resolve coordinates and a timezone. These requests require a connection. Previewing a result does not save it; Save stores the resolved city on your device. City search does not require access to your device location. Android currently offers a bundled city list.
Optional location access
You can search for an iOS city, choose a saved city, or choose an Android bundled city without giving the app access to your device location. Astra requests location permission when you choose Use Current Location. It does not request background location access, and you can revoke permission in your device settings.
On iOS, the requested coordinates are sent to Apple's reverse-geocoding service to resolve a place name and timezone. This request requires a connection and is handled by Apple Maps, under Apple's Maps privacy information. Astra does not send the fix to a nitpick labs location or weather server.
On Android, the current version can request a device location fix, but authoritative timezone lookup is not connected. The fix remains temporary, is not sent to a nitpick labs server, and cannot be used to display a resolved Current Location sky in this version.
Website links
Opening the company website, Terms, or Privacy leaves the app and opens your browser. These pages are served through Google Firebase Hosting. Your browser sends connection and request information, such as your IP address, requested URL, and browser headers, so the host can deliver the page. These Astra Terms and Privacy pages have no analytics scripts, advertising, forms, or tracking cookies.
If you separately subscribe to the newsletter on the company homepage, that service is covered by our newsletter privacy notice. Newsletter signup is not part of Astra.
Contacting us
If you email us, we receive your email address and the information you include. We use that correspondence to answer your request and provide support, and retain it while needed for that correspondence and follow-up. Our email service processes the message to deliver and store it. Please avoid including precise location or other personal information unless it is needed for your request.
Your controls
You can remove saved places in the app, revoke location permission in device settings, and remove local app data by deleting the app or clearing its storage where your device supports that option. Backup copies are managed separately through your device or backup service. To request deletion of support correspondence, contact info@nitpicklabs.io.
